2019 Southeast Asian Bat Bioacoustics Symposium
2019 Southeast Asian Bat Bioacoustics Symposium
Bioacoustic techniques have been widely applied to investigation of bat species location data and long term monitoring on spatio-temporal dynames of bat diversity. In the Southeast Asian tropics, there are around 270 species are capable to use echolocation, which contribute over 70% of the 380 known bat species in the region. Despite call descriptions in published literature comprise c. 40% of the regional echolocation bat fauna, the information provided are often insufficient in species classification when the comparisons including data across regions and taxa. Moreover, None of the original recordings in these publications is archived in any open database, and, therefore, inaccessible to general users. Southeast Asian Bat Conservation and Research Unit (SEABCRU, www.seabcru.org/) and Hungarian Natural History Museum (HNHM, www.nhmus.hu) have been working with their collaborators from Southeast Asian countries in research on bat diversity and conservation in the last two decades. In this year, the two organizations are collaborating in the establishment of acoustic carry capacity, more specifically, a online open-access call library, for bat research in SE Asia. We expect that the proposed call library would facilitate bat bioacoustic research in the region.
